gender based violence

We live in a patriarchal society.

Thankfully, the world is shifting rapidly towards becoming more inclusive, and is giving women the attention they deserve for equal rights, protection and empowerment.

WarriorRic has partnered with the SPAR Women’s Challenge for over five years. As an ambassador, he has leveraged his charisma before a race in order to augment entries and to build excitement. On race day, camaraderie is palpable as WarriorRic leads from the official start, to the mainstage, to the finish line engaging participants, celebrating charities and performing as emcee to award winners, and to recognise legends of the brand property and the sport.

WarriorRic has taken up the cause with SPAR nationally to end the scourge of gender based violence by helping lead campaigns at schools, in communities and as part of the 2021 & 2022 SPAR Grand Prix across cities in SA.

Conservation

In relation to the global pandemic, it has been said, “We are all in the same storm.” However, we are navigating treacherous waves from different types of boats. Africa’s tattered boats riddled with disease, political unrest and abject poverty, make us the least likely to survive.

Africa is resilient!

South Africa is a country that boasts the best that nature has to offer worldwide. It is no wonder our economy is largely built around Eco-tourism. But the sector needs help.

The pandemic was not kind to any of us, but the way it shook the regions of Mpumalanga and Limpopo in terms of lack and loss was devastating. The Extra Mile started in 2018, and built substantial momentum in 2019 with a new title sponsor, new date and high expectations for continued success. However, after the inaugural year and an amazing sequel to the fundraiser, COVID and the pandemic posed new and unique challenges.

Trying to conduct a fundraising race under expected circumstances is hard enough. Try to organise one meant to bring people together, only to learn that you are not allowed to have an event with more than a small number of participants, in specific environments, with strict protocols and with those safety measures changing on a regular basis!

The Extra Mile Virtual Runs of 2020 and 2021 were great examples of Africa’s resilience and More Community Foundation’s commitment to deliver on its promise to support community and the foundations of its work: Education and Skills Development, Enterprise Development, Living Standards and Clean Water.

With new opportunities to reach schools, lodges and private individuals, More Community Foundation and its partners sought after like-hearted community members looking to connect, revitalise and, in some cases, save our communities from the perils of the pandemic, ongoing poverty and crime.

The Extra Mile Team pulled off nothing short of a miracle in 2020 and 2021! Because of a never-say-die attitude over the last two years, 2022 was a comeback year of note! Be sure to stay in touch with More Community Foundation and partners like WarriorRic to find out how you can get involved in the lead up to our sixth annual race in September 2023. The Extra Mile, running for our communities.
